Central agencies cooperation sought to curb human trafficking
Union Minister of State for Planning V Narayanasamy has requested Home Minister P Chidambaram to ensure central investigation agencies coordinate with police here to curb the activities of `anti national elements` indulging in illegal human trafficking. Speaking to reporters at his office today, he said a tip off from central intelligence wing had led to CID sleuths here arresting four persons on October 7 in Puducherry and two others subsequently in Karaikal in connection with `illegal transport` of people from Puducherry to foreign countries. A mechanized boat was also seized at Karaikal prior to the arrests, he said. He said he had repeatedly brought to focus for the last 16 years the nefarious activities of `anti national elements` smuggling of men, diesel, kerosene, petrol and household goods to Sri Lanka from Puducherry and Karaikal, but to no avail.

The main focus of EMPOWER PEOPLE lies on awareness raising and sensitization trainings for law enforcement agencies. The organization is also offering direct victim support and assistance to women vulnerable to human trafficking and domestic violence.
