was missing from Amritsar for the last three years. This case was handed over to Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, SSP of Punjab Crime Branch by the Honourable Punjab & Haryana High Court. A Habeas Corpus petition was filed by Advocate GK Mann on behalf of Sonu Prasad the father of the girl.

The Honourable High Court intervened in this matter as Sonu Prasad alleged that Amritsar Police has produced a girl who was not his real daughter and he was pressurised by the police to accept that girl as his daughter. After that, DNA test was ordered by the Court and it was established that the girl who was produced as the daughter of Sonu Prasad was some other girl and not the daughter of the petitioner. In this background, Honourable High Court ordered a fresh probe on 11 July 2011 and handed it over to Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh by name.

During the investigation, it was found that the girl Pooja was taken by one Puran Kaur of Amritsar as a domestic help in 2008 with the consent of her father. After some time, Puran Kaur sent the girl to Delhi to work as domestic help with her son Sukhbir Singh. After some time the girl went missing and Puran Kaur could not give any satisfactory answer when enquired by the father of girl Sonu Prasad. Thereafter Sonu Prasad lodged an FIR with Amritsar Police.

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, SSP Crime Branch said that he constituted a team of officer under him consisting of DSP Vibhor Kumar, DSP Jagjit Singh, Inspector Makhan Singh and some other officers of various ranks. The interim bail granted to Sukhbir Singh and her mother Puran Kaur was got cancelled at the request of Crime Branch. Thereafter, Sukhbir Singh and his son Arundeep were arrested and taken on remand for four days. During remand, the police party went to Delhi alongwith the accused persons. The girl was traced from Janakpuri area at the instance of the accused persons where she was living with a couple as a domestic help.

It was found during the investigation that the girl was illiterate and escaped from the house of Sukhbir Singh as she was subjected to physical and mental torture and somehow went to the house of a retired DIG of the CRPF. Now the parents have identified the girl as their real daughter. The girl will be handed over to the parents after taking orders from the honourable court of CJM Amritsar.

The State Crime Branch has been recently set up as an elite investigating agency under Punjab Police which has State-wide jurisdiction. It works under the Additional Director General of Police, Crime presently headed by Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, IPS. Source
