Haryana cop held for human trafficking

A Haryana Police sub inspector was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for allegedly being part of a human-trafficking racket, police said on Saturday. “The arrested officer is Nirmal Singh, posted as a Sub Inspector with the Haryana Police’s Armed Police division,” said RA
Sanjeev, deputy commissioner of police (IGIA).
According to police, Singh had been working as an undercover agent dealing in human trafficking and was in connivance with a Delhi-based agent. The duo also used to facilitate passengers who wanted to go abroad by procuring fake visas for them. “The arrest came following the detention of Gurlal Singh, one of the duo’s victims at IGI airport, minutes before he was planning to board a flight for Tehran with a Tajikistan visa.”
Police said on scrutinising the passport, it was found that the passport had been re-stitched and that the security thread had been tampered with. “During questioning, Singh broke down and revealed that he had procured the fake passport and visa through an agent called Nirmal Singh for R7 lakh. Nirmal revealed the accused sub inspector’s involvement in the racket,”the officer added.
