House broker held for kidnapping minor girl
CHENNAI: A 31-year-old real estate broker was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl on the promise of marriage at Choolai.
Acting on a complaint given by the 16-year-old girl’s mother, G Devi (32), a resident of Choolai Street, the police arrested N Rajendran of Perungalathur.Rajendran was already married and had a three-month child, sources said. He befriended Devi when his wife went to her native Kerala for delivery.Devi was separated from her husband Ganesan and lived alone with her daughter Ashwini (name changed). Rajendran became close to the family when he offered to look for a house for them.A month ago, he eloped with Ashwini and was planning to get married to her. On getting to know this, Devi filed a complaint with the Vepery police, who arrested the house broker and rescued the minor girl.Contractor ‘misses’ `10 lakh: The police are investigating into a complaint lodged by a civil contractor, alleging that `10 lakh kept in his car went missing on Wednesday at Neelangarai.Sources said Shanmugham (37) of Chozhan Nagar in Vetuvankanni was a civil contractor.On Wednesday, he was returning from the registrar’s office located in Neelangarai in his car with `10 lakh after closing a land deal.He parked his car before his house and went inside to get a document.When he returned, he found the cash missing from his vehicle and lodged a complaint at the Neelangarai police station.
