The main focus of EMPOWER PEOPLE lies on awareness raising and sensitization trainings for law enforcement agencies. The organization is also offering direct victim support and assistance to women vulnerable to human trafficking and domestic violence.Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh: The National Women Commission has asked the Madhya Pradesh government for a detailed report on trafficking of minor girls. Recently 21 such girls were rescued by the Mandsaur police, what is more nerve racking is that the minor girls were being administered hormones and steroids for fast growth to push them into prostitution.
The village from which the girls were rescued houses 30 Banchra families, who are scheduled castes and each family has at least one minor girl.
Now many of them have fled after police conducted raids looking for minor girls trafficked into prostitution.
It is alleged that each girl was sold to Banchra families for prices ranging between R
s. 20,000 and R
s. 70,000. A gang of 29 members has been busted.
It is believed that the gang used to kidnap minor girls from railway stations, bus stands and temples.
"I was selling balloons, two people came, gave me chocolate and took me inside a bus, later they sold me," said a victim.
The police suspect that over 800 minor girls are still there in almost 16 Banchra bastis.
A drive is on to rescue those girls. The police are now contemplating DNA tests to corroborate maternity claims of women the girls are staying with.
"We will get DNA tests conducted in suspicious cases. This will prove whether they are the actual parents of the children or not," said Upendre Jain, IG Ujjain Division.
