The girls were kept in a house in Marathahalli and guarded by Shankar's men. The men even used to hit them if they refused to dance in the bar.
One of the girls managed to contact her parents in Punjab and apprised them about the situation. The girl's parents got in touch with police. The home where the girls were kept was raided on Wednesday night. All the girls were rescued and sent to their hometown. Shankar and his aides were held in the raid. Some of his men are still absconding.
Woman succumbs to injuries
A woman who had sustained burn injuries while cooking food, succumbed to injuries at hospital.
The incident was reported in Lakshmi Layout in Electronics City police station limits, on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Sheela (25), wife of Manjunath, a BMTC bus driver.
On Wednesday afternoon, she was preparing food on a kerosene stove when the accident happened. She was shifted to the Victoria Hospital, where she succumbed to burn injuries late on Wednesday night, the police added.
"The chances of Sheela committing suicide cannot be ruled out. We are investigating on those lines also," the police added.
Premature baby found abandoned
A premature baby boy's body was found near Yediyur Lake under Jayanagar police station limits on Thursday morning.
A security guard of the lake noticed the body on a bund in the lake at around 6 am and informed the police. It is suspected that the baby was about six months old and had a premature birth. As it was thrown, a major crack was found on its forehead, the police said.
Later, the body was shifted to KIMS Hospital mortuary, where an autopsy was conducted. Jayanagar police have registered a case under Section 318 of the IPC and are investigating.
