Woman, 2 men booked for selling teenaged girl in Gujarat

AMRAVATI: Police have booked a woman for allegedly selling a 19-year-old girl to a tout in Gujarat, who later sold her to another man. According to information from police sources, the accused Shakuntala Raut has been arrested by Frejarpura police.
The parents of the victim girl had died and she used to stay with her grandmother. Shakuntala used to work with a catering company and was a neighbour of the girl's grandmother. Shakuntala met the victim girl a few days back and lured her with promise of better job prospects to take her to Gujarat.
The girl did not inform her grandmother that she was going to Gujarat trip and left with Shankunata in September. The worried grandmother had lodged a missing complaint with the police.
Recently, the girl called up her grandmother and informed her that she had been sold off by Shakuntala to Usman, who sold her to Jagdish Zala. After learning about her granddaughter, the old woman lodged another complaint against the trio with Frejarpura police station.
A team of Frejarpura police reached Zanzarwa in Gujarat and raided the house of Jagdish Zala. The police brought the girl with them to Amravati on Tuesday, but Zala and the tout Usman are still absconding. The police have already arrested Shakuntala.
It is learnt that Shakuntala sold the girl to tout Usman for Rs 40,000, and Usman later sold her to Jagdish Zala, who is a driver at Zanzarwa in Gujarat, for Rs 80,000. After selling the girl, Shakuntala had come back to Amravati. Jagdish had sexually exploited the girl. Police have registered offences against Shakuntala, Usman and Jagdish Zala under relevant sections of IPC. Source
