Kidnapped girl rescued

NEW DELHI: The police have rescued a 12-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped from the Shahbad Dairy area with the intention of marrying her off as a child bride in Rajasthan. The main accused Lakhan, an Aligarh resident, was also nabbed in the police raid.

Raju, a resident of Metro Vihar, near Holambi Kalan in New Delhi filed a complaint on June 12 saying that his minor daughter had gone to a local market at around 7.30 pm but did not return. He suspected that she had been kidnapped. A case was registered at the Shabad Dairy police station and investigations began.

"An intensive search was launched in and around Delhi to locate the girl, but it was thanks to a tip-off that the girl was found in Rajasthan. The accused Lakhan was subjected to sustained interrogation, during which he revealed that he had kidnapped the girl in order to marry her off in the Bhiwadi district of Rajasthan,'' said DCP (outer) B S Jaiswal.
