Maoist spokesman accused of sexually exploiting girl
Ranchi, Sep 2 (PTI) Young women living in villages in Saranda forests were forced to marry CPI(Maoist) cadre and even its spokesman Samarjee was accused of sexually exploiting a girl who has been rescued, Jharkhand Deputy Inspector General of Police, N K Singh said today. "A girl, who was rescued during anti-naxal operations in Saranda forests, has accused CPI (Maoist) spokesman Samarjee of sexual exploitation," Singh told a press conference here.In the recent months, Samarjee has been sending press releases to the media in Jharkhand on Maoist-sponsored events and related issues. "Many young girls in the villages in Saranda say they are being forced to marry Maoist cadres and join the CPI (Maoist) against their wishes," Singh added. Interaction between police officers and villagers during the ongoing anti-naxal operation which started on July 31 was 'very revealing', the DIG said. "The villagers desperately want to get rid of the naxalites. They are forced to obey their orders at gun-point and dissenting voices were badly beaten up, and many a time killed," he said. Quoting villagers that they were upset by both the government and the Maoists for underdevelopment of areas like Tirilposi and Thalkobad, Singh said the inhabitants there were annoyed that top Maoists from outside Saranda were not allowing the locals to develop. Appealing to the 'misled persons' to return to mainstream, Singh said the police had distributed essential commodities among the villagers during the anti-naxal operation.
