Surat cops rescue minor girl who was sold off for Rs 65,000
The police on Thursday rescued a 16-year-old tribal girl from Navsari district who was allegedly sold off for Rs 65,000 to a man in Ahmedabad by two persons from Valsad district. All three have been arrested.
The 16-year-old victim from Vadpada village of Chikhli taluka had gone missing from the vegetable market in Dharampur taluka in Valsad district on September 15. The girl used to accompany her mother while selling vegetables in the market at Dharmapur.
The mother had lodged a missing complaint at the Dharampur Police Station. A few days later, she learnt her daughter was spotted with Sona Patel and Farida Sheikh, both from Valsad district.
When questioned, Sonal and Farida told the police about one Kirit Jethmal living in Odhav area of Ahmedabad to whom they had sold the girl for Rs 65,000.
A police team went to Ahmedabad and arrested Kirit while rescuing the girl who he had forcibly married.
Circle police inspector L S Chaudhary said, “Sonal and Farida, after spotting the girl alone on Dharampur main road, took her to Dhamcacha village promising her work and good money. Sonal kept the girl in her house and threatened to kill her if she protested.”
“The victim is minor but Sonal had told Kirit she is 18 years of age. We are looking for one more person from Ahmedabad in this connection,” Chaudhary said. Source
