12 girls rescued in Mumbai as part of drive against prostitution

Continuing their drive against prostitution dens in the city and its suburbs, the social service branch of Mumbai police raided three more saloons and massage centres and rescued a dozen girls.

In raids at Chembur, Ghatkopar and Malad during the last two days, police rescued at least 12 girls, a few of them minors, who were pushed into prostitution for the lure of easy money. The managers at all the three places were arrested, police said.

In yet another raid on a bar-cum-restaurant in Sion-koliwada area last evening, police arrested 15 lady waiters, who were behaving indecently with customers.

The manager, cashier and eight customers were also arrested, police said.

In the last 21 days, more than a hundred girls have been rescued from beer bars, saloons and massage centres, which were functioning as prostitution dens, and 35 managers arrested and cases registered against them, sources said.
