Human trafficking racket smashed
NEW DELHI: An illegal human trafficking racket allegedly being run by a Delhi-based politician in connivance with some government officials has been unearthed by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The agency conducted searches at 38 residential and official premises of the accused in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Hyderabad.
The CBI has registered three cases against the Delhi-based recruiting agent, Wasim Ahmed Ghazi, three private firms, the then officials of the Protector of Emigrants (PoE), V. B. Singh, Nadeem Ahmed, Arup Aggrawal and Y. P. Ahuja, and other private persons for alleged involvement.
“It is alleged that the recruiting agent and other agents, in connivance with the officials of the Protector of Emigrants based in Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh, were obtaining emigration clearances for unskilled workers on the basis of false and forged documents,” said a CBI official.
V.B. Singh, who was then posted in the Capital, is now a director with the Labour Ministry. Nadeem Ahmed, then in Chandigarh, is presently a section officer with the Information and Broadcasting Ministry; Arul Aggarwal is now posted with the PoE Hyderabad and Y.P.
